Last Monday forty four-balls took to the fairways of the Armagh County Golf Course for the inaugural fundraising Golf Classic organised by staff at St Patrick’s Grammar School, Armagh. The event is designed to raise funds for school sports and all extra-curricular activities. Many St Patrick’s students take part in these activities throughout the school year and they are an integral part of the holistic development of the boys attending the Armagh school.
The weather played its part on the day, remaining largely dry, as teams from local businesses, past pupils and people affiliated with St Patrick’s took to the course. The competition was not taken lightly with many experienced golfers involved but in the end Team Mac Electrics took first place, winning an array of golf equipment from the Pro Store at County Armagh Golf club and a 4-ball at Ardglass Golf Club, Co. Down. In second place was the David Comiskey Dentistry team, who won a 4-ball at Carton House, Co. Kildare. Third place went to the team from Fionuala Oliver Solicitors winning a 4-ball at Concra Wood, Co. Monaghan. Other prizes included: Longest Drive, Jarlath McReynolds, one year membership at Maxx Life Gym, Armagh; Nearest the Pin, Joe O’Hare, meal voucher from Basil Shield’s Co. Armagh; Ladies Prize Draw, Bernie Gribben, bouquet of flower from Tom O’Kane’s Flower shop, Armagh.
Mr Dominic Clarke, St Patrick’s principal, who participated in the competition on the day, was delighted with the event explaining, “there was a great buzz on the golf course and it was very competitive! It was great to see so many past pupils and members of the wider St Patrick’s community involved and the school has received so much positive feedback from what was a great day’s golf”. He thanked all of the St Patrick’s staff who organised the event and also thanked Seven Hills for providing a delicious lunch that was well received after a busy day on the golf course!
The entire St Patrick’s community has been overwhelmed by the very generous sponsorship they received from within and outside the local community and they thank most sincerely the many and generous sponsors who came forward and supported the golf classic and those who participated on the day.
